MOFA: We look forward to hold a meeting of the Cooperation Council with EU

    The Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein affirmed Iraq's aspiration to hold a meeting of the Cooperation Council with the European Union at the ministerial level . 

    The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein met today, on the sidelines of his visit to Brussels, with the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union Josep Borrell," noting that "during the meeting, bilateral relations between the two countries were discussed." The Republic of Iraq and the European Union and ways to strengthen them, and current issues on the Iraqi, regional and international arena. 

     Hussein expressed his thanks for the European Union's support for political stability and economic development in Iraq, through its participation in the international coalition to defeat ISIS. 

    He touched on the latest developments regarding the political situation in Iraq and the efforts of the political blocs to form a new government, thanking "the European Commission for accepting the Iraqi government's call to send a mission to monitor the recent Iraqi parliamentary elections, as well as supporting Iraq in facing the outbreak of the Corona pandemic." 

    He stressed, "The utmost importance that Iraq attaches to partnership and cooperation with the European Union countries and the steps taken to implement the partnership and cooperation agreement between the two sides by completing the meetings of the sub-committees, as well as holding the meeting of the Cooperation Committee at the level of agents," pointing out "Iraq's aspiration to hold the meeting of the Cooperation Council on Ministerial level soon.
