Salih: There is an urgent need to ease tensions in the region

President Barham Saleh said Tuesday that there is an urgent need to ease tensions in the region.
 
"President Saleh received the credentials of Italy’s new ambassador to Iraq, Maurizio Cricanti, at alsalam Palace in Baghdad," his press office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
 
"Iraqi-Italian relations are close and important, and must be strengthened in various fields, working together to meet various challenges, particularly the fight against terrorism and extremist ideology, and strengthening economic and cultural cooperation and environmental action," he said, praising Italy's "supportive role for Iraq."
 
"There is an urgent need to ease the tensions in the region and support the course of dialogue in resolving existing differences that will have a positive impact on regional security and stability," Saleh said, stressing "the importance of Iraq's central role in the region and the need to ensure its security, stability and sovereignty."
