Baghdad – conscious
Leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, confirmed on Wednesday, that the recent elections resulted in the victory of a class of independent candidates, and this is a beautiful image, while warning about an attack on the independents and their votes to bring them down and deliver partisans to Parliament.
"The legislative elections resulted in the victory of a class of independents more than others, over the partisans,” said Al-Sadr during his meeting with a number of independent candidates who won the recent elections, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
He noted, "Previously, winning was the monopoly of some parties, but one should be aware of parties seeking to co-opt independents, either by enticement or terrorizing,”
"I also warn against some people killing a candidate with the aim of escalating a losing candidate. From here, I demand the protection of independents, defending them and their voices and not attacking them by means of enticement, intimidation or murder, and I am ready to provide any required service," he warned.
Al-Sadr pointed out that "the presence of independents and the intention of the majority of them to go to the opposition and not join the government is a new and good thing. We are still heading towards a national majority government. We want the opposition in Parliament to have an active voice and its demands are taken into account, provided that they are not factional or sectarian,"
