Salih: Iraq adopts a balanced foreign policy

     President Barham Salih affirmed  today, Monday that Iraq adopts a balanced foreign policy, while Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde indicated her country's commitment to supporting the security and stability of Iraq. 

     

    The Media Office of the Presidency of the Republic said in a statement, that "the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, received, today, Monday at Baghdad Palace, the Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ann Linde," noting that "the bilateral relations that unite the two countries and the need to strengthen it in various fields were discussed." In a manner that meets the interests of the two peoples, referring to the support provided by the Swedish government and organizations to the Iraqi people in the humanitarian fields, support for Iraq’s efforts in combating terrorism, and addressing Sweden’s accommodating of a large Iraqi community. 

     

    Salih stressed that "Iraqi-Swedish relations are close and must be strengthened through bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding," noting that "Iraq looks forward to strengthening its relations with its friends in the international community and supports joint coordination in facing the challenges of terrorism, combating extremist ideology and corruption, and collective action in the face of the dangerous repercussions of climate change and protecting the environment." 

     

    He added that "Iraq adopts a balanced foreign policy based on the necessity of easing tensions in the region, establishing security and stability, and strengthening economic and commercial interdependence," noting that "Iraq's stability is a pivotal component in the stability and peace of the region." 

     

    For her part, Minister Ann Lindy affirmed her country's "commitment to supporting the security and stability of Iraq, and strengthening its economy through national reform plans," praising "the progress made by Iraq at the national level and its efforts to ease regional tensions."
