Supreme Judicial Council clarified on Wednesday the mechanism for handling appeals against the election results, while setting out the conditions and possibility of resorting to manual counting.

"The mechanism by which the Council deals with appeals against the results of the elections is carried out by law by submitting a request by the objector to the Board of Commissioners that includes objecting the results and requesting that its votes to be recounted," the Council told the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

"The objector has the right to appeal the decision of the Board of Commissioners to the Judicial Electoral Commission of the Supreme Judicial Council, which either supports or overturns the decision of the Council of Commissioners," the Council added.

"The appeals filed were returned by official document to the Board of Commissioners for a decision and will the then be returned to the judiciary for consideration in accordance with the law," the Council added.

Concerning the possibility of resorting to manual counting, the Board stated that "the Board of Commissioners can approve manual counting in case of an appeal at specific stations if there is evidence requiring manual counting",
