‘Anti-Daesh Coalition Summit’ kicks off in Kuwait

US-led Global Coalition’s 74 partners held a meeting in Kuwait at the level of foreign ministers, to affirm the Coalition’s determination to defeat Daesh.
The meeting comprises the Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq (KICRI).
It will be divided into two sessions, with the first tackling the fight against Daesh in Syria and Iraq. The second to examine anti-terrorism efforts, the Kuwaiti News Agency (KUNA)
Meanwhile, Kuwait’s Deputy PM and FM Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson were both have addressed proceedings.
The meeting is part of a series of international conferences that took place in order to build a formal coalition to destroy Daesh, which had taken over large portions of Syria and Iraq in 2014.
Since then, the coalition is now 68 countries strong beside other decision-making international organizations, namely US, UK, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Canada, New Zeeland, Australia and Turkey, in addition to members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Iraq, Jordan and Morocco.
The first of these conferences took place in September 2014 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
