Iraq and Australia discuss joint cooperation within the international coalition

National Security Adviser Qassim Al-Araji and the Australian Ambassador to Iraq Joan Lunds discussed the joint cooperation and coordination within the framework of the international coalition, against Daesh terrorist gangs.

"Al-Araji received Lunds, and the military attaché, Colonel Matthew Catel," according to a statement by the media office of the National Security Adviser that the Iraqi News Agency (INA) received.

Al-Araji also discussed with Lunds, ways to benefit from Australian expertise in the scientific, economic and infrastructure fields, as well as assistance in the reconstruction of Sinjar.

During the meeting, Al-Araji thanked the Australian ambassador for her country’s embrace of the Iraqi community, praising the good treatment of the Australian government to the Iraqis there, while expressing the Iraqi government’s aspiration for more cooperation between the two countries, to achieve security and stability in the region and avoid crises.

Al-Araji concluded the meeting by stressing the importance of confronting violence, countering extremism, and achieving security stability in the interest of the countries of the region and the world.

For her part, Lunds emphasized that “Australia is a true partner and supporter of the political process in Iraq, and that her country aspires to a democratic, secure and prosperous Iraq,"
