The Parliamentary Agriculture Committee clarified today, Friday, that investment in desert areas is not possible because the groundwater is not renewable.
The deputy and member of the Parliamentary Agriculture Committee, Ali Al-Badiri, said in a special statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "There is a real and very clear problem with regard to investment in desert areas within the strip extending from the governorates of Muthanna, Najaf and Anbar, which is that groundwater in these areas does not." It can be invested and benefited from, because it is an important strategic reserve for the country, and it considers non-renewable water, which means if this water is withdrawn, and it cannot be replaced.
